Twill

This is the piece of fabric that creates a sheath or barrier between you and your pillow. Typically, a pillowcase has one opening on the short side of the fabric and extra fabric that will drape over a few inches, when placed over the pillow insert. The drape is sometimes generous and provides a decorative element to what is otherwise a largely functional piece.

There are different varieties of cotton, as well as different quality levels. Two of the highest quality cottons are Egyptian and Pima/Supima cotton.Egyptian cottonis grown in Egypt, as the name suggests. Pima cotton is grown in the United States, although you might often see it referred to as “Supima,” as well. This is a portmanteau of “superior pima” and is a registered trademark of the Supima trade association, which promotes Pima cotton. 

Throw
Luxury throw blankets are small decorative blankets, often with trim or fringe, that are used for extra warmth, decoration, or as a covering when lounging on top of the bed. It is normally folded at the foot of the bed, on top of any other bedding.

Dobby weaves are produced on a dobby loom and contain small geometric or stripe patterns throughout. This weave creates more texture than others, as the shapes (be it squares, diamonds, dots, or the like), have a slightly raised feel. The most common design for bed sheets is thick stripes. 

With its smooth finish, incredible durability,  and resistance to pilling, Egyptian cotton is the highest quality cotton you can find. It’s typically made with an extra-long staple — the longest cotton fiber available — and can be fairly pricey for the real stuff.
