One of the most obvious differences between skillets and frypans is its shape. But it is also a factor that often confuses people, simply because they’re both flat-bottomed rounded pans with a handle. Here’s how they differ in regards to shape.

While they both look almost identical, frypans and skillets each have their own roles to play in the kitchen. Frypans are best used for foods that require lower heat such as eggs, pancakes, and the ever delicate fish. This is because the frypan’s curved edge makes it easier to maneuver the ingredients as you cook.

Similarly to cast iron, carbon steel pans need to be seasoned before use (though some, like ours, do come preseasoned). As if these pans weren’t already versatile enough, carbon steel is also safe to use on the grill as well as over an open flame.

Is a Skillet the Same as a Frying Pan?

    The sizzling plate is designed to retain heat, allowing the food to stay sizzling hot when it is served.  They usually consist of sizzling iron plate or stainless steel plates that are heated to high temperatures and then placed on a wooden or metal base to protect the tabletop.  The sizzling sound of the steak as it makes contact with the induction sizzling plate not only creates an enticing sound but also helps lock in the juices and flavor of the meat.

Ceramic frying pans are made from a non-toxic, non-reactive material that is known for its non-stick properties and fast heating capabilities. They are ideal for cooking delicate dishes and reducing the amount of oil needed for cooking. However, they are prone to scratching and may not be suitable for high-heat cooking.

The size of the pan defines its purpose to some extent. For example, a 6-inch skillet is suitable for frying an egg, while a larger pan is necessary for frying multiple eggs simultaneously or creating stir-fry or shallow fry dishes.

As the market shifted towards non-stick PTFE-coated pans, the design of frying pans began to change. Stainless steel frying pans with non-stick coatings are now readily available.
